Ludum dare #28 is started since last night. The is is : You only get one. At the beginning, I didn’t know what I can do but I have chose that the player will have only one life to make the most posible damage at the ennemy horde. The video game type is an horizontal space shooter. I have take some images and sound that I already have and the game name is Humanity’s last hope.
For this first day, I did the main menu and the starting of the first level. The player can move and shoot. I have two ennemy types that can spawn. At first, this part take a lot of time to do because I don’t have a lot of experience with the 2D toolkit in Unity. After that I known how to use the mesh collider, all has going well. Here is what I will do tomorrow in priority order.
- Ennemy shoot integration.
- Score integration
- Ennemy wave
- Integration of the principle of heat to avoid maintening shoting key.
- Boss integration
- Story integration

In December 14th 2013 weekend, ,I will participate to the Ludum Dare competition for the second time. The competition is about creating a video game in 48h. (72h with light rules). On my side, I will create my video game with one of this tools selection. It will depend of how many hours I have before the competition to train.

My goal is to beat my last competition result in all category. The one that I would like to beat is the FUN category where I had finished at the position 300. I will write here 1 or 2 times a day to show my work in progress.
This was my first LD and I’m very proud of what I made.
What was good:
I started to work 10 hours late , but I had a clear idea when I started.
In general, the use of my engine was efficient. I had learn a lot of new things and I will update my engine with that.
The use of xTile library was very easy. It’s help me a lot for the displaying of my map.
What was wrong:
I had a lot of problem with my collision detection. At first, the collision detection worked around 50% of time. I found the solution at the last day. That was a very simple problem. I didn’t take the right coordinate so the collision detection was offset.
Level too short
I didn’t have the time to make a longer level.

I will participate in the next Ludum dare and before that, I will continue to work on my game to make it better. I would like to add more levels, power-up, obstacle and other stuff that I have in mind.
